Definition and Examples of Organization in Composition

Definition and Examples of Organization in Composition In compositionâ and discourse, the association is the course of action of thoughts, occurrences, proof, or subtleties in a recognizable request in a paragraph,â essay, or speech. It is otherwise called the elementsâ arrangementâ orâ dispositio,â as inâ classical rhetoric. It was characterized by Aristotle in Metaphysicsâ asâ the request of that which has parts, either as per place orâ potentiaâ or structure. As Diana Hacker wrote in Rules for Writers, In spite of the fact that passages (and undoubtedly entire expositions) might be designed in any number of ways, certain examples of association happen every now and again, either alone or in blend: models and delineations, portrayal, depiction, procedure, examination and complexity, similarity, circumstances and logical results, grouping and division, and definition. There is nothing especially mysterious about these examples (now and again called strategies for advancement). They basically mirror a portion of the manners by which we think. (Diana Hacker, with Nancy I. Sommers, Thomas Robert Jehn, and Jane Rosenzweig, Rules for Writers with 2009 MLA and 2010 APA Updates, Bedford/St. Martins, 2009) Picking a Format Essentially, the objective is to pick an authoritative methodâ that empowers your report, paper, introduction, or article to unmistakably pass on your data and message to your crowd. Your subject and message will direct that. Is it accurate to say that you are attempting to convince, report discoveries, depict something, look into two things, educate, or recount to someones story? Make sense of the proposition articulation or message you need to get over come it down in one sentence in the event that you can-andâ what you plan to do will assist you with choosing your expositions structure. On the off chance that youre composing instructional content, youll need to go in sequential request. On the off chance that youre revealing discoveries of an analysis or your determinations in the wake of examining a book, youll start with your proposition proclamation and afterward bolster your thoughts with proof, disclosing how you reached your decision. In the event that youre recounting to someones story, you may have an ordered association for a great part of the piece, however not really directly at the presentation. On the off chance that youre composing a report for a distribution, you may need to work backward pyramid style, which puts the most quick data up top, giving individuals the substance of the story regardless of whether they read just a couple of passages. Theyll get more detail the further into the story they read. Blueprints Regardless of whether you simply sketch an unpleasant framework on scratch paper with a point rundown and bolts, making it will help the drafting of the paper go all the more easily. Setting up an arrangement can likewise spare you time later on the grounds that youll have the option to adjust things even before you begin composing. Having a diagram doesnt mean things wont change as you go, yet simply having one can help ground you and give you a spot to begin. Dwight Macdonald wrote in The New York Times, [T]he great essential guideline of organization:â put everything on a similar subject in a similar spot. I recall when a supervisor, Ralph Ingersoll I think, calmly clarified this little-known technique to me, that my first response was obviously,â my second yet why didnt it ever happen to me? what's more, my third that it was one of those significant trivialities everyone knows after theyve been told. (Rreview of Luce and His Empire,â in The New York Times Book Review, 1972. Rpt. in Discriminations: Essays and Afterthoughts, 1938â€1974, by Dwight Macdonald. Viking Press, 1974) Presentations and Body Text Whatever you compose, youll need a solid presentation. On the off chance that your perusers dont discover something to snare their interestâ in the primary passage, all your examination and exertion into making your report wont accomplish their objective of advising or convincing a group of people. After the introduction, at that point you get into the meat of your data. You wont fundamentally compose your introduction first, despite the fact that your peruser will see it first. Some of the time you have to begin in the center, just so youre not overpowered with a clear page for long. Start with the rudiments, the foundation, or coming down your examination just to get moving and return to composing the introduction toward the end. Composing the foundation regularly gives you a thought of how you need to do the introduction, so you dont need to worry over it. Simply get the words going. Arranging Paragraphs Structure Dont get too hung up on a specific equation for each passage, however. Stephen Wilbers composed, Passages extend from firmly organized to approximately organized. Any plan will do as long as the passage appears to hold together. Numerous sections start with a theme sentence or speculation, trailed by an explaining or restricting proclamation and at least one sentences of clarification or advancement. Some close with a goals proclamation. Others defer the theme sentence until the end. Others have no point sentence by any means. Each passage ought to be intended to accomplish its specific reason. (Keys to Great Writing, Writers Digest Books, 2000) Ends A few pieces that you compose may require a wrap-up kind of end particularly if youre out to convince or introduce discoveries where you give a snappy outline of the high purposes of what youve just introduced in detail. Shorter papers may not really need this kind of end, as it will feel excessively redundant or harped on to the peruser. Rather than a straight-out rundown, you can come at it a piece differentlyâ and examine the noteworthiness of your theme, set up a spin-off (talk about its potential later on), or bring back the scene from the earliest starting point with a little included contort, comprehending what you know now, with the data introduced in the article. Addresses Composing a discourse or introduction is like composing a paper, however you may require more ricochet back to your primary concerns relying upon the length of your introduction and the detail you intend to cover-to ensure that the essence of your data is cemented in the crowd individuals mind. Discourses and introductions likely need features in a synopsis end, however none of the redundancy need be long sufficiently only to make the message vital.

Commercial and Corporate Law Structures

Question: Talk about the Commercial and Corporate Law Structures. Answer: Presentation There are three structures in any business association. They incorporate; the sole ownership structure, association plan of action and a restricted obligation organization as cherished in the law. Subside and Susan need to begin PPM benefits under one of the three pretenses whichever is reasonable for the activity of the business and supportability of their family resources (Chasalow, 2010). Dwindle can begin a sole ownership structure where he possesses 100% business proprietorship separately. He is completely qualified for all benefits and misfortunes that the business acquires. Favorable circumstances of a sole ownership It is the most straightforward type of any structure in business and set up. Coming up next are the focal points; It is simple and affordable way: A sole owner is the structure more straightforward and more affordable to set up organizations. The expenses are negligible, and legitimate expenses are restricted to authorizing and allows. Boundless business control-Since you are the proprietor of the business, you have extreme power over each choice in business. You will be not required to look for counsels with any other individual when you settle on choices or need to make business changes (Copeland, Koller and Murrin, 2000). Simple tax assessment a sole ownership business isn't burdened independently, so it is anything but difficult to meet the revealing prerequisites forced for a solitary proprietor. There are likewise lower tax collection in business structures. Constitution of a sole ownership There are no proper activities to business arrangement in a sole ownership. At whatever point you are the sole entrepreneur, this condition in a flash originates from its exercises in a sole ownership business. Truth be told, you may as of now have the constitution in the business without remembering it. Like some other business, a sole dealer needs to acquire essential allows and licenses to work. Guidelines will fluctuate by industry, status and area. Device Use Licenses and allows (in English) to discover a rundown of grants, licenses and government, state and neighborhood records you have to work a business. Organizations The expense relies upon the Authorized Share Capital. To get this data you can enter the necessities (Georgas, 2003) Attributes of an enrolled organization Sweeping statements Is a need that this issue has sweeping statements, so as to comprehend the significance of understanding the components of the organization. It is helpful at this setting considering the components of the organization, which are: work, capital and the executives need. Work The work is the principal component of the organization, which we allude to beneath. The equivalent is the component of the organization that is made out of the considerable number of laborers who can be utilized and laborers, for instance is a specialist attendant, an aide, a secretary, a guardian, among others. Organization The organization is the component of the organization that is framed by chiefs of the organization, which might be executives, supervisors, sub administrators, among others. The organization is isolated from the privilege of responsibility for organization with more reputation in corporate capital or huge organizations or immortals. Capital The capital is the component of the organization that is made out of the interest in the organization. That is, capital is the arrangement of information sources that might be-money or non-money, registrable or not registrable, enlisted or unregistered (Limited obligation organizations, 2013). This component is anything but difficult to recognize, be that as it may, sometimes execution issues are introduced by individuals who have no space of business law, for example, bans present the organization can be seized or resources of the organization. Need For that to succeed an organization are insufficient these components, yet there must be a requirement for merchandise or administrations gave by it, and therefore as a rule the market is fragmented so as to have the option to lead the great or administration gave by the organization, to decide before contributing whether there is adequate requirement for good or support and keep away from the disappointment of the organization. Disservice of the Corporation The company is very settled in our state and around the globe along these lines it ought to be concentrated so as to survey its drawbacks, an issue that has not been concentrated by the essayists. The drawback of the organization is to be legitimized minute books falsely by individuals outside the organization and result so that the control thereof is fluctuated and thusly numerous issues to the organization and investors brought about. This burden isn't business constrained obligation organization and thus the comparing impact of favoring the important administrative change study is required. Confronted with this issue some open enlistment centers avoid potential risk of including seats in the enrollment of lawful people book number and the name of the legal official open sanctioning the book. That is, the situation of open enlistment center warrants a ton of obligation and care so as to give the fundamental security that is painfully ailing in the Peruvian law (Mancuso, 2004). Another hindrance of this sort of organization is that the offer register can be changed and in a specific order of thoughts not control the record is certain that is crazy. These two topics of the enterprise have not been worked by the scholars. Diminish should enroll an organization along with Susan so as to defend their family resources from any bringing about obligation. Preferences of an organization as opposed to sole ownership and association The restricted risk organization is a plan of action that is demonstrated and effective. Entrepreneurs have all the organization shares distributed secretly. Investors can work the business without anyone else, or recruit administrators to deal with the organization in intermediary structure. The development of a restricted obligation organization creates an insurance of individual or individual property, access to assets progressively, more prominent tax reductions and monetary help. Constrained risk The best advantage of constrained risk organization is the restricted obligation angle it has. These organizations can deal with their own properties making them single elements that additionally deal with their own obligations Expense favorable circumstances The LLCs appreciate charge focal points other than restricted risk. These business organizations pay enterprise charge on their available benefits and are probably going to be excluded from exorbitant paces of annual assessment. The arrangement of an organization as opposed to proceed as an individual organization or an individual business person opens roads to more duty deductible cost and reimbursable assignments under advantages. Money and assets With sufficient funding,a organization can create products at a lower cost, expanding benefits and consumer loyalty. In addition, the fate of the organization gets more secure. The money related reports of constrained obligation organizations will in general hold more assets in the organization to meet future budgetary responsibilities, which helps a development contrasted with independently employed business people. Business Continuity The LLCs appreciate perpetual progression on the grounds that the organization is a different lawful substance. Investors and representatives acting as specialists of the organization, he composes, Tutor2u and consequently doesn't influence the organization on the off chance that they leave. If there should be an occurrence of death or acquiescence, the articles of relationship of the organization assigned portions to the rest of the individuals. The business interference just happens through liquidation or comparable methods. A progression ensured benefits individuals as well as guarantees occupations and network assets Organization This is the place subside presents his better half susan and his companion jack to start a business and benefits and misfortunes are assigned by the rate possessed by singular accomplices. Association is better than a sole ownership business since it permits dispersion of dangers. In what capacity would peter be able to organize jack and others to join the business One of the most significant activities the life of a Startup is acquiring financing. We have just talked about before in this blog about the Participative Loan as a type of financing, be that as it may, in this article we will build up the conventions to be satisfied to do a capital increment because of accepting subsidizing. The capital of an organization is administered by its standing rules, which is the place has much is the capital of the equivalent, and where the quantity of units wherein is isolated and the ostensible estimation of each predefined. Change of Bylaws For pragmatic purposes, in this article we center around the instance of a capital increment for a restricted organization, which must be concurred and endorsed by the General Meeting of Members, with the pertinent greater parts for an adjustment in the local laws (Unsworth, 2001). The capital increment might be executed in two different ways: - through the formation of new offers; or - By Rise in the benefit of existing offers, with the assent all things considered. Here we will concentrate on the principal mode, as discussion about the occasion that is contribution to another speculation accomplice. The response to this inquiry is that as a general rule doesn't occur lost most social capital as the capital increment is made with premium record. What is a premium? The premium the financial specialist pays the ostensible estimation of the offer. To follow the string of this theme, we delay to characterize two fundamental ideas to comprehend the activity of capital, which are the Pre-cash valuation and Post-cash valuation.Pre-cash valuation is the valuation that has been given to the organization by its action in the market since its foundation, preceding receipt of speculation and this evaluation is free of the offer capital of the organization. The Post-cash valuation is the valuation given to the organization ensuing to the commitment of venture. At that point we will have a drill capital after the above ideas: The corporate capital activity, may turn out to be progressively intricate for the situation study that we talked about before, so our suggestion is to look for legitimate exhortation as indicated by business needs and goals sought after by the gatherings. Nanoflares Keep Things Hot on the Sun

One thing we all know about the Sun: its incredibly hot. The surface (the outermost layer of the Sun that we can see) is 10,340 degrees Fahrenheit (F), and the core (which we cant see) is 27 MILLION degrees F. Theres another part of the Sun that lies between the surface and us: its the outermost atmosphere, called the corona. Its some 300 times hotter than the surface. How can something farther away and out in space be hotter? You would think it would actually be cooling off the farther away it gets from the Sun.   This question of how the corona gets so hot has kept solar scientists busy for a long time, trying to find an answer. It was once assumed that the corona heated gradually, but the cause of the heating was a mystery.   The Sun is heated from within by a process called fusion. The core is a nuclear furnace, fusing atoms of hydrogen together to make atoms of helium. The process releases heat and light, which travel through the Suns layers until they escape from the photosphere. The atmosphere, including the corona, lie above that. It should be cooler, but its not. So, what could possibly heat the corona? One answer is nanoflares. These are tiny cousins of the big solar flares that we detect erupting from the Sun. Flares are sudden flashes of brightness from the Suns surface. They release incredible amounts of energy and radiation. Sometimes flares are also accompanied by massive releases of superheated plasma from the Sun called coronal mass ejections. These outbursts can cause whats called space weather  (such as displays of northern and southern lights)  at Earth and other planets. Nanoflares are a different breed of solar flare. First, they erupt constantly, crackling along like countless little hydrogen bombs. Second, they are very, very hot, getting up to 18 million degrees Fahrenheit. Thats hotter than the corona, which is usually a few million degrees F.   Think of them as a very hot soup, bubbling along on the surface of a stove, warming the atmosphere above it. With nanoflares, the combined heating of all those constantly blowing tiny explosions (which are as powerful as 10-megaton hydrogen bomb explosions) is likely why the coronosphere is so hot.    The nanoflare idea is relatively new, and only recently have these little explosions been detected. The concept of nanoflares was first proposed in the early 2000s, and tested beginning in 2013 by astronomers using special instruments on sounding rockets. During the short flights, they studied the Sun, looking for evidence of these tiny flares (which are only a billionth of the power of a regular flare). More recently, the NuSTAR mission, which is a space-based telescope sensitive to x-rays, looked at the Suns x-ray emissions and found evidence for the nanoflares.   While the nanoflare idea seems to be the best one that explains coronal heating, astronomers need to study the Sun more in order to understand how the process works. They will watch the Sun during solar minimum—when the Sun is not bristling with sunspots that can confuse the picture. Then,  NuSTAR and other instruments will be able to get more data to explain just how millions of tiny little flares going off just above the solar surface can heat the thin upper atmosphere of the Sun.

China Has Been A Communist Country - 1534 Words

China has been a communist country. Despite persistent debate over an extended period of time, the question whether which Chinese government is the most responsive to its people has never been permanently settled. However, I dare to claim that Qing Dynasty was the most open and receptive to its people among several Chinese governments. Some people might contend that Republic of China, Warlords, and Chinese Communist Party were the most responsive to its people. However, a close examination throughout this essay will clearly reveal the fallacious nature of their argument. My line of reasoning will derive its support from the most fundamental sources of human wisdom and history. Qing Dynasty is the last empire in China. It was founded by Manchus in 1644 and ended in 1912 after Xianhai Revolution. Even though Qing Dynasty was an empire and was under the discipline of ‘Mandate of Heaven’, it prospered more than the other three governments. In the first 150 years of Qing Dynasty, it enjoyed stability and peacefulness for a long time without being noticed by foreign powers. During this time, even the culture and artistic practices bloomed. The Dream of the Red Chamber, which is China’s greatest novel, was written During Qing Dynasty. People had more time to enjoy their cultural life. It is usually attributed to the emperor Qianlong who ruled Qing from 1735 to 1799. Noteworthy, the release of i- Phone 6 came with additional features to the operating system. I phone 6 runs ios 8 which has advanced features such as continuity, QuickType, iCloud Drive and Family Sharing. Moreover, the phone exhibited substantial progress for photos, Spotlights among other features. Processing Speed. The improved speed of processing further contributed to the popularity of i-Phone 6 in the market. The high processing speed was made possible by ensuring a perfect compatibility between the hardware and the software. Furthermore, the compatibility ensured the smooth running of the operating system and improved user interface which significantly develops the customers attraction. Apple Store and Itunes. The Apple stores give i-phone users a chance to access a relatively vast number of applications. Itunes further gives the users an opportunity to add to their collection of music, movies and TV shows. Price (Cost to Satisfy) Apple uses the premium pricing technique that involves setting high prices for new products in the market. For instances, i-phone is the most expensive smartphone in the market as compared to other competitors such as Samsung. It is worth noting that the customers prefer i-phone despite their high prices. The prices represent the cost that the client is willing to incur to meet the needs and desires created by the features of iPhone 6. Place (Convenience to buy) This aspect of marketing mix primarily involves all the activities aimed at ensuring availability of the product across the world for the target customers. In the case of i-phone, Apple has guaranteed the availability of their products in many countries globally. Moreover, they offer outstanding service back up in all the countries of operation. Apple also distributes its products through CNF that entails circulation done by a carrying and forwarding agent. Additionally, retailers get the product directly from the company. The customers are also privileged to the product directly from the company through the Apple online store. Effective placement increases the convenience with which the consumers can get the new products. Promotion (Communication) Whenever i-phone is released, Apple deploys various platforms to create awareness of the new product efficiently. Apple applies both ATL and BTL platforms during promotions. For ATL, Apple heavily uses the newspapers, radio, and televisions to reach the targeted premium segment. Additionally, Apple uses the BTL platforms such as major advertisements at various retail outlets and other points of sales conversations and offers to convince other customers. Promotion is intended to communicate the features of the new product to the clients. Consumer Priorities In the industry of smartphones, consumers have exhibited a preference for larger screens, high processing speed, and an advanced operating system. Such features should be given focus to enhance customer attraction (Malasi, 2012). Target Market for Apple, i-phone 6 Apple Inc. primarily makes their product suit various end users requirements. As such, the company pays close attention to the customers needs to be able to develop products that impress their clients who are spread across the world. Apple operates in a global market; thus, the iPhone 6 targeted everyone globally across the demographic, societal and financial aspects that significantly influence the consumption rate (Malasi, 2012) Organizational Requirements Effective implementation requires resources. Any company should make a budget for the plan and ensure adherence to the developed budget. All the financial aspects of the scheme should be considered when planning to provide a comprehensive budget hence limiting the chances of adverse variations (Jain Haley, 2009). Therefore, it is noteworthy that money is vital in the effective implementation of a marketing plan. Importantly, the cost of the program should not exceed the revenues to be raised from the sales. Adjusting the Marketing Mix Apple Inc. is among the companies that have the best marketing plan for their products. However, there are notable loopholes that need adjustments. The various changes needed area as discussed below; Product The business world is dynamic in nature, and therefore technological advancements are inevitable (Proctor, 2005). As such, Apple needs to consider providing a variety of smartphones because there is a section of the population that continuously changes phones. Other competitors such as Samsung offer several types at different prices to cater for the various customers. Additionally, Apple should lift the unnecessary restriction in their products and include the missing features such as expandable internal memory. Further, the non-removable battery hinders the chances of additional revenue through the sale of accessories. Pricing Apple Inc. should consider reviewing their pricing strategy and look into ways of making their products affordable to the customers with little income (Yoo et al, 2000). The company should also introduce different amounts of discounts to the customers to improve the level of sales significantly. Place Apple experienced an increase in their level of sales since iPhone 6 was launched in 2014. However, it worth noting that significant sales were made in urban areas, an implication that Apple can still significantly boost their market dominance by putting emphasize on geographical expansion. To achieve the objective of geographic expansion, Apple should expand its supply chain to reach the rural areas. Moreover, the company should franchise their production to arrive at a wider market globally (Westwood, 2002). Monitoring the Marketing Mix The marketing plan needs control to ensure that everything works as intended. Exercising adequate control is the key to the success of any marketing mix. As such, the plan needs to be monitored to detect any deviation from the projections made. An important technique in the follow-up to a marketing plan is through the customer feedback which can be obtained through interviews and surveys. Furthermore, a company can use the target market sales to control the project. This technique involves continuously measuring the units sold at the target market to assist in detecting the effectiveness of the plan (McDonald, 2007). Testing and Re-Adjusting the Marketing Mix The monitoring process reveals potential areas of deviations that need urgent actions. As such, the identified factors need to be isolated for the purpose of testing. Subsequently, an analysis of the test result needs to be done. Remarkably, the managers should evaluate the consequences of altering any aspect of the plan and implement the option with the most favorable outcome (Luther, 2001). However, due care should be observed in ensuring that the re-adjustment conforms to the requirements of the budget for marketing plan as well as the organization. Conclusion A new product needs a practical and economical marketing plan to penetrate the target market (Rahmani et al., 2015). In the case of Apple, the strategy for the commercialization of iPhone involved a perfect mix of the 4Ps of the marketing as evident by the notable rise in the sale of iPhone 6 as illustrated by the graph in the appendix. Odyssey Literary Terms-Books free essay sample

Throughout the first four books Telemachus faces the struggle of trying to find his father. He is in search if his father and is searching around and talking to different people to find out information about his father and is doing what ever he can to find him. B. This is an external conflict because he struggles with the outside world in trying to find where his father is. Telemachus struggles with other characters along his journey. 2. Simile A. Men like best a song that rings like morning on the ear. B. This is a simile because Homer is comparing a song to a morning ring because of their sound. 3. Sensory imagery A. Meanwhile the din grew loud in the shadowy hall as every suitor swore to lie beside her, but Telemakhos turned now and spoke to them. B. This is an example of sensory imagery because the way homer is describing this event, you can picture it happening in your mind. When primal dawn spread on the eastern sky her fingers of pink light, Odysseus true son stood up, drew on his tunic and his mantle, slung on a sword-belt and a new-edged sword, tied his smooth feet into good rawhide sandals, and left his room, a goda brilliance upon him. B. This represents personification because it is describing the eastern sky and Odysseus son in great detail. 5. Internal conflict A. Friend, let me put it in the plainest way. My mother says I am his son, I know not surely. Who has known his own engendering? I wish at least I had some happy man as father, growing old in his own house- but unknown death and silence are the fate of him that, since you ask, they call my father. B. In this quote Telemachus is struggling with an internal conflict because he wants to know who is father is. He wishes he knew what his own father was like and wish he grew up with a father.

See the Best Architecture in Seattle, Washington

See the Best Architecture in Seattle, Washington The architecture in Seattle, Washington tells a story not only of itself but of a nation. Exploration of the lands west of the Mississippi River increased in the 1800s when the city was first settled by Easterners of European descent. The California and Klondike gold rushes had a home base in the community named for Chief Seattle, leader of the local inhabitants. After the Great Fire of 1889 destroyed much of the original 1852 settlement, Seattle bounced back, eventually throwing itself into the modernity of the 20th century. Visiting the Pacific northwest city is like taking a crash course in architecture. Although well-known for the nearby snow-capped mountains and the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, the City of Seattle should be especially admired for its approach to design and urban planning. When tragedy strikes or when opportunity knocks, this American city has taken action. Seattle, Washington is a very smart city, and heres why. Seattle Takeaways: 10 Sites to See Smith TowerThe Arctic Club BuildingPioneer Square and Underground ToursVolunteer ParkPike Place Market Historical DistrictSeattle Public LibraryMoPOPHammering Man and Other ArtFloating Houses on Lake UnionThe Space Needle Get High in Seattle The 1914 Smith Tower is not the tallest skyscraper anymore, but it gives a great introduction to historic Pioneer Square and downtown Seattle. The pyramid roof used to contain a huge water tank to supply the building with indoor plumbing. Todays visitors can take an Otis elevator to the 35th floor observation deck to get a first glimpse of the city. The Seattle skyline is recognized by its iconic observation tower, the Space Needle. Completed in 1961, it was originally built for the Century 21 Exposition, also known as the 1962 Seattle Worlds Fair. At over 600 feet tall, the observation tower allows a 360 degree view of the region at 520 feet, from the distant Mount Rainier to the swervy metal Frank Gehry-designed museum nearby. This observation tower has become a symbol of Seattle and an icon of the Pacific Northwest. Higher still is the 902 foot observation deck at Columbia Center,  originally the Bank of America Tower built in 1985. As one of the top ten tallest buildings in Seattle and one of the the tallest buildings west of the Mississippi River, the Columbia Center offers the Sky View Observatory on the 73rd floor for sweeping views of the Seattle area. Like other great tourist destinations around the world, Seattle now has a huge ferris wheel located by the waters edge. Since 2012, the Great Wheel has been getting tourists high in enclosed gondolas that travel over land and water. Seattle Space Needle and Frank Gehrys Music Experience Project. George Rose/Getty Images Stay Low in Seattle Most of the original 1852 settlement - wooden structures that had been built on the low, marshy ground - was destroyed by the Great Fire of June 6, 1889. After the tragedy, the area was filled, raising the street level about eight feet. The Yukon Gold Rush of the 1890s brought business to the town, but the rebuilt storefronts eventually had to be built up to reach the street level, creating what is now known as Seattles underground. This entire area known as Pioneer Square was saved and preserved by local citizens such as Bill Speidel, who started giving tours in 1965. The underground tours begin at the historic Pioneer Square, near Doc Maynards public house. Who was Doc Maynard? Born in Vermont, Dr. David Swinson Maynard (1808-1873) befriended Chief Seattle and became one of the founding fathers of Seattle in 1852. Closer to ground level is the 1912 Volunteer Park, landscaped by a man who became known as the Father of Landscape Architecture. For over three decades, the Massachusetts landscape architecture business founded by Frederick Law Olmsted had a presence in Seattle. The city first bought this park land in 1876, and the Olmsted firm was on board early on. Volunteer Park, one of many parks in Seattle, now includes a famous water tower, conservatory, and an Asian Art Museum - all great Things to do in Capitol Hill. Pioneer Square Where Seattles Underground Tour Starts. Joel W. Rogers/Corbis via Getty Images (cropped) The Pioneer Square Historical District is at the heart of Seattle. After the Great Fire of 1889, Seattle laws mandated rebuilding with fire-resistant masonry. The Pioneer Building (1892) is a fine example of the kind of Richardsonian Romanesque style used to rebuild Seattle. The Cadillac Hotel (1889) is also one of the first masonry structures built in post-fire Pioneer Square. The three-story Victorian Italiante structure was built to house local laborers: longshoremen, loggers, fishermen, rail yard workers, and prospectors preparing to search for gold in Canada. Nearly destroyed by arson and the 2001 earthquake, the structure is now outfitted with solar panels and considered a textbook example of adaptive reuse. Although the building is said to be haunted, the Klondike National Historic Park is located here. Another popular destination in Seattle is the Pike Place Market Historical District. A farmers market since 1907, Pike Place now hosts hundreds of independent artisans in what is said to be the oldest continuously operating and most historically authentic public market in the country. Highsmith Buyenlarge/Getty Images (cropped) Modern Designs by Famous Architects The 1991 Seattle Art Museum known as SAM was designed by the architecture team of Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates. Although the architecture is world class, the downtown campus may be better known for the 48-foot outdoor sculpture of Hammering Man by Jonathan Borofsky and the totally free Olympic Sculpture Park nearby. The Museum of Pop culture (MoPOP) used to be called the Experience Music Project (EMP) when it opened in 2000. This high-tech, interactive museum explores creativity and innovation in music, science fiction, and popular culture. It is the brain-child of Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen but the architecture is pure Frank Gehry. Take a quick look by riding the Seattle Center Monorail that goes right through the building. The Seattle Public Library built in 2004 is another deconstructivist design by the Dutch modernist architect Rem Koolhaas and American-born Joshua Prince-Ramus. Open to the public, the library represents the art and architecture that Seattles citizens have come to expect. Seattle Public Library. Ramin Talaie/Corbis via Getty Images Floating in Seattle Washington State has been called the floating bridge capitol of the world. Pontoon bridges that carry Interstate-90 traffic over Lake Washington are the 1940 Lacey V. Murrow Memorial Bridge and the 1989 Homer M. Hadley Bridge. How are they engineered? Large, water-tight concrete pontoons are prefabricated on dry land then towed onto the water. The heavy, air-filled containers are placed end-to-end, and connected by steel cables, which are anchored to the riverbed or lakebed. The road is built on top of these pontoons. Despite their heavy concrete composition, claims the Washington State Department of Transportation, the weight of the water displaced by the pontoons is equal to the weight of the structure (including all traffic), which allows the bridge to float. Atomic Taco via flickr.com, Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 Generic (CC BY-SA 2.0) Staying in Seattle The Arctic Club built in 1916 played host to lucky prospectors returning to Seattle with Klondike gold. Known for its sculptured walrus heads and Beaux-Arts opulence, the Arctic Building is now a DoubleTree by Hilton. The first skyscraper built in Seattle still stands. The 14-story, L-shaped Alaska Building, built in 1904 was the first steel-framed skyscraper in Seattle. Now a Courtyard by Marriott, the Alaska is more Chicago School style than the Beaux-Arts Hoge Building, Seattles second skyscraper built in 1911. Both buildings were surpassed in height when L.C. Smith built his own skyscraper with the pyramid roof. Where do people live in Seattle? If youre lucky, youll own a perfect little house by Brachvogel and Carosso, a local architectural firm that continues to build functional, historically modern houses for the Seattle area. Modernist style in the Pacific northwest flourished in the mid-twentieth century. Enthusiasts of northwest modernism have documented the lives and works of over 100 architects and designers who are associated with Washington State. Likewise, the independent documentary film Coast Modern includes Seattle in their examination of West Coast Modernism. Seattle is part of the Coast Modern story say the filmmakers in their blog. Most unique to the housing in and around Seattle, however, is the number of houseboats being designed for residents and vacationers, especially in the Lake Union area. Called floating homes, these residences embrace Seattles natural environment and northwestern lifestyle of mixing work with pleasure. Houseboats on Lake Union. George Rose/Getty Images (cropped) The City of Seattle claims the International District to be the only area in the continental United States where Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, African Americans and Vietnamese settled together and built one neighborhood. Living together has never been an easy path, however. In 2001 the William Kenzo Nakamura U.S. Courthouse was renamed for a Japanese-American war hero whose family was ordered to internment camps during World War II. The 1940 courthouse is an interesting building architecturally, being described as Classically modern, Federal Art Deco, and PWA Moderne by the General Services Administration (GSA). The PWA or Public Works Administration was part of the New Deal of the 1930s. When the federal government renovated the building in the 1980s, the GSAs Art in Architecture project commissioned Caleb Ives Bach to paint The Effects of Good and Bad Government, an American version of the 14th century Lorenzetti fresco. Another U.S. Courthouse in Seattle is well-known for large murals in the lobby painted by artist Michael Fajans. Seattle is not only an interesting mix of art and architecture, but also a fascinating brew of people and history. Sources City of Seattle. Alternative to Brainstorming

The NGT is a technique that was developed by Delbecq and VandeVen. It is used for group brainstorming with the intent to get everyone involved by contributing their feedback. It is structured to help gain different viewpoints from several people for a particular topic or issue. The NGT was designed with the purpose of causing all members of the group to be involved in the discussion with one person having single dominance. It allows those individuals who are perhaps more soft spoken an opportunity to have a vocal voice in the discussion. It is also helpful to use when there are new team members who perhaps have yet gained the comfortability for sharing within the group. The NGT should help to keep the discussion flow balanced for all the topics or ideas. It should also help guide the discussion in such a way that limits the possibility of argumentive outbreaks. The NGT should produce a good mixture of quality ideas and help everyone to feel the involvement of working together as a group. The article, Nominal Group Technique: An Alternative to Brainstorming, lists some basic steps to follow when using this technique. The steps are (1) Individuals should be groups by five or six people.

Generational differences Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Generational differences - Essay Example There needs to be respect, acceptance and harmony among the different generations in order for smooth progress to occur. Various characteristics of my generation have enabled me to develop into the kind of individual that I am. Technological advancements have made things much easier such as travelling and getting information. I therefore believe that I am more knowledgeable on a variety of things based on the ease of access of information through the internet. The social life of Generation Y has also expanded through social networks and it is easier to have international friends. This means that communication is fast and effective through text messages emails and social networks and has aided in international marketing through these venues. The generation Y prefers management that caring rather than competent which is another unique factor. Unfortunately, the other generations may view the ease with which my generation does things in a negative way. They feel that we are after instant gratification and do not care about work yet have high expectations in life. According to them, our generation uses cryptic messages and move from one job to another and therefore when assigned to a multi-generational work group the cooperation may not be well enhanced. However, I disagree with this view and believe that they have misunderstood the Y generation. This is because we not only focus on having work, but also working in a comfortable environment that respects and appreciates our opinions. The messages we send are simply short forms to save on time. They mistake our focus to get things done fast and effectively for instant gratifications. The differences in opinions and judging on different generations, this may lead t conflict at work. The older generation may undermine the opinions of the generation Y because they believe that we are after instant gratification and are not focusing on maintaining one

Advanced manufacturing techniques and the advent of nanotechnology Assignment

Advanced manufacturing techniques and the advent of nanotechnology - Assignment Example Nanostructural elements are explained, with possible applications not only in the production process of physical goods, but at other phases of manufacturing, including assistance with environmental requirements due to efficiency. Nanotech has the potential for faster, cleaner industry with more effective options for waste removal and prevention of toxic emissions. Three tasks are discussed, with implications of nanostructures as they benefit circuit manufacture, factory waste-emissions, and miniaturization for ionic conductance components. The benefits as well as disadvantages are explained, with recommendations for further implementation and research. INTRODUCTION The principles of advanced manufacturing, as it pertains to manufacturing flexibility are widely recognized as critical. Retaining and maintaining flexibility in manufacturing and operational procedures boosts the organization's capability to respond effectively to ongoing customer issues and requirements, the goal being t o respond without the sacrifice of excessive time and money. A comprehension of the interaction between advanced manufacturing technology and flexibility in the manufacturing process are vital areas of investigation for any productive operation. Advanced manufacturing technology, hereafter referred to as AMT, is essential not simply in the production of more advanced consumer goods, but a more refined technical capability can also permit organizational agility, flexibility during functional operations. Modern research has produced statistical results that indicate a correlation between an organization's sourcing practices and manufacturing flexibility, essential for adaptation to both a changing marketplace, and shifting product demand at any given time. (Oberoi, et al. 2008) AMT allows control over sourcing practices. This methodology permits the achievement of desirable benchmarks in manufacturing flexibility, towards the objective of high agility organizational competitiveness. A n excellent modern example would be the growing prevalence of Nanomanufacturing. Nanotechnology and the manufacturing it entails constitute a series of chemical and mechanical techniques that allow the assembly of particles far smaller than any which could be assembled by purely hand-based tools. This paper will demonstrate a wide range of advantages afforded with nanotech and nanoscale manufacturing technology, and how this pertains to the goal of advanced manufacturing technology. Nanotechnology has the potential to act as a new methodology for reducing the energy costs and waste-production of manufacturing processes to benefit a variety of production interests. Potential uses include chemical, refining, automotive, and other heavy industries. There are projections which indicate nanotechnology yields the potential to save up to 1.1 quadrillion British thermal units (Btu) and prevent over 60 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. Princess Diana :: Informative

Princess. What does the term really mean? Most people associate it with a fairy-tale life. You have everything you want right at your finger-tips. You are perfectly happy and nothing can go wrong. In reality though, is this true? Lady Diana Spencer was seen as a perfect, flawless princess. But who really was she? What did the title â€Å"Princess† mean to her? Diana secretly struggled with insecurity her entire life, but her determination and compassion shaped the way the world thought of her. Throughout her life Diana displayed a very insecure nature. Psychologists think this was rooted in her childhood (Smith). When she was six, her mom left her family (Smith). After her parent’s high-profile divorce was finalized, she remembered her father’s distant, lonely silences, and her mother’s constant crying (Morton 35). Diana described this as a â€Å"wish-washy and painful experience† (33). Due to these circumstances she felt detached and different from others at a very young age (34). For Diana’s engagement party to the Prince of Wales, she wore a black dress that she thought was â€Å"pretty and smart† (51-52). When Prince Charles saw her, he said with disgust, â€Å"only people in mourning wear black† (170-171). She was destroyed by this comment. She needed people’s constant support and compliments (170). Later in her marriage, her husband’s lack of attention led her to suffer from bulimia and to make several su icide attempts (85-86). Once, when she was attempting to gain Prince Charles’ attention, she took a penknife and cut her chest and thighs (77). Seeing the bloody sight he said, â€Å"You are crying wolf.† This comment added to her negative self-esteem (188). The constant press coverage put her under lots of pressure. â€Å"It warped her sense of who she was through its unrealistic expectations, distortions, exaggerations and outright inventions† (Smith). It made her believe she had to live up to the impossible expectations that were being forced on her (Smith). Diana was easily influenced and very sensitive. She let other people’s views of her and life’s uncontrollable circumstances affect her self-image. Diana showed great determination by following what she believed in. She had a passion for ballet throughout her entire life. When she was at boarding school, she would sneak down to an empty corridor at night and practice for hours on end. Even though she grew too tall to accomplish her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina, she kept dancing throughout her adult years (Morton 125).

Adopting a Single Set of International Financial Accounting Standards Free Essay Example, 1750 words

Immense kinds of literature in support of a single set of IAS have termed comparability of information as the hallmark of the accounting models. Li (2010) noted that economic integration across nations had dramatically increased because of globalization thereby the need for an international-based accounting information system. Advocates of IAS argue that comparable information facilitates international transactions and hence lowering exchange costs. Li (2010) added that the adoption of IAS leads to a similarity of value relevance, the extent of earning management and conservatism. On the other hand, information comparability gains should be examined in terms of similarity facet and difference facet. Chua and Taylor (2008) stated that similarity facet of information comparability demonstrates whether organisations undertaking similar economic ventures announces similar results. On the contrary, difference facet shows whether companies undertaking varying economic activities post diss imilar financial figures. While there exist paucity of knowledge on whether IAS improves on both facets of the information comparability, studies by Kim et al. , (2007) showed that IFRS was more inclined towards the improvement of the similarity facet. In their studies, Barth et al. We will write a custom essay sample on Adopting a Single Set of International Financial Accounting Standards or any topic specifically for you Only $17.96 $11.86/pageorder now (2011) noted that IAS in non-American firm resulted in a more effective comparison of value relevance of earnings and equity book value than when they applied local standards of accounting. The existence of comparable accounting earnings from firms is subject to the nature of the accounting standard utilized by a given firm (Li, 2010). The prevalence of IFRS profoundly promotes comparable financial reporting that in turn lead to information transfer. Apparently, firms have been compelled to adopt IAS based on the knowledge that non-comparable information highly undermines the prediction of the value of other firms based on financial announcements. On the contrary, Jeanjean and Stolowy (2008) discredited comparability as one of the core drivers of IAS.
